Use an official online service or motor vehicle office to replace an eligible registration certificate. If the plate or decal is also missing, report and replace those items under the separate replacement process rather than ordering only the paper certificate.

Select a transaction to see commonly associated official forms and preparation notes. Nothing is submitted or stored.
Open the current official PDF and read every instruction. The processing office may require additional evidence or a different form for the actual record.
Identify What Is Missing
A lost glove-box document is a registration certificate. A missing yellow sticker is a validation decal. A missing metal tag is a plate. Each item has a different replacement reason and may require HSMV 83146, a police report or surrender of a damaged item.
Online Replacement
Eligible owners may replace or renew registration through GoRenew/MyDMV. Review the mailing address before paying and save the confirmation. An online transaction may include a nonrefundable convenience fee and may not be cancelable after submission.
Office Replacement
Use a motor vehicle service center when the address is wrong, the record has a stop, identity cannot be matched, the vehicle is commercial or the plate/decal is also missing. Bring accepted identification, vehicle information and any police report for theft.
Driving Before the Replacement Arrives
Do not assume an email receipt is accepted in every situation. Keep the official confirmation and verify the registration remains valid. A law-enforcement officer can check the record, but drivers should carry the evidence required by current law and agency guidance.
Registration Is Not Proof of Title
A registration certificate can help identify the vehicle and registered owner, but it does not transfer marketable ownership. A buyer still needs a properly assigned title or official e-title transfer.
Protect the Replacement
Keep a photo or secure scan for reference, but do not publish the full document. It can contain an address, plate, VIN fragment or customer information useful to scammers. Store the original where it remains readable and accessible.
Requirements can change by record and transaction. Include the official page, form number, office response and effective date when reporting an update.
