Official Florida Vehicle and Plate Reports
FLHSMV publishes a central reports page with monthly and annual motor-vehicle data. The page includes counts of vehicles registered by county, electric and hybrid vehicle counts, renewal reports, specialty license plate reports and longer-term registration or title transaction summaries. The label on the report matters: a county inventory, a monthly renewal report and a transaction trend are not interchangeable.

What the Numbers Actually Mean
An active-registration count is a stock measure at a point in time. A renewal or title transaction is a flow measure during a period. One vehicle can generate multiple transactions, and one transaction can involve a replacement, correction or transfer rather than a new vehicle entering Florida. A plate can also remain assigned to an owner and transfer to a replacement vehicle.
How to Compare Months and Fiscal Years
- Use the same report family and vehicle class.
- Compare the same month across years when seasonality matters.
- Check whether the report is fiscal-year-to-date or a single-month snapshot.
- Read footnotes for excluded transaction codes or special classes.
- Do not add monthly snapshots together; that double-counts continuing registrations.
County Registration Data
County reports are useful for market sizing, office workload, fleet planning and regional comparisons. They are not a directory of owners and do not provide protected names or addresses. Population growth, seasonal residents, rental fleets, commercial registrations and county office practices can affect comparisons.
Specialty Plate Data
Specialty reports can show how many valid registrations are associated with designs and help users understand program participation. A high count does not prove that the design is currently in stock at a particular office. Presale vouchers, redesigns, eligibility restrictions and discontinuation rules can change availability.
Limitations and Responsible Use
Official administrative data is designed for public administration, not owner profiling. Do not infer a person’s identity, residence, income or beliefs from a county or specialty plate count. When publishing a chart, label the report period, source, unit and extraction date, and credit FLHSMV as requested on the official reports page.
