The familiar statewide standard option using Florida’s standard design and the “Sunshine State” wording.
In God We Trust
A standard design option with the “In God We Trust” wording, separate from specialty plates that collect annual-use fees.
County Name
A standard county-designation plate offered only by participating counties and subject to local availability.
Standard Plate vs Specialty Plate
A standard plate is the ordinary state credential governed by the general registration rules. A specialty plate is a legislatively authorized design associated with a cause, organization, college, military status or other program and often includes an annual-use fee or eligibility evidence.
County-Name Plate Availability
FLHSMV states that the county-name standard plate is not available in every county. Do not assume the name printed on the plate proves where the owner currently lives or where the vehicle is normally driven. Verify participating inventory with the local tax collector or plate agency.
Can a Standard Plate Be Personalized?
Most Florida plate types can be personalized, subject to character limits, availability, configuration review and additional fees. A result in the official availability checker is not a reservation and does not guarantee final approval.
Cost Planning
The standard plate choice is only one part of the transaction. Registration tax, initial registration fee when applicable, title charges, service fees, personalized fees and scheduled replacement charges can affect the total. Use the current rate chart and final office quote.
Renewal and the Metal Plate
Annual or biennial registration renewal usually continues the existing metal plate and updates the validation period. Florida generally replaces metal plates on a ten-year cycle, or sooner when lost, stolen, damaged, altered or unreadable.
