What Is the Sunshine State Plate?
FLHSMV lists “Sunshine State” as one of Florida’s three standard plate options. It is not a cause-based specialty plate and does not by itself create access to private owner data or a special registration class.
How to Request the Design
Ask the motor vehicle office handling the original registration, replacement or permitted plate change. Bring the documents required for the underlying transaction. A design choice cannot cure a title problem, insurance hold or registration stop.
Personalized Sunshine State Plate
A proposed personalized configuration must fit the design’s character capacity, pass availability checking and receive approval. Prepare backup choices. Availability at the time of an online check does not reserve the text.
Renewal and Scheduled Replacement
Registration renewal normally extends the registration period and supplies a new decal. The metal plate generally continues until the ten-year replacement cycle or an earlier lost, stolen, damaged or unreadable replacement.
Transfer to Another Vehicle
The plate generally stays with the registered owner, not a buyer. An eligible owner can transfer the plate and remaining registration credit to a replacement vehicle through an official transaction.
Keep the Plate Original and Readable
Mount the assigned plate securely at the required location. Do not wrap, recolor, paint or cover the design. The characters, validation decal and required wording must remain visible and detectable.
