A Standard Plate, Not a Cause-Based Specialty Plate
FLHSMV places the In God We Trust option with the state’s standard plates. That distinction matters when comparing annual-use fees, program beneficiaries and eligibility requirements.
How to Request the Plate
Request the design through a tax collector, license plate agency or other authorized motor vehicle service center. The owner still must satisfy the title, registration, insurance and identification requirements for the actual transaction.
What You May Pay
The total can include registration tax, initial registration fee when applicable, plate issuance or replacement charges, service fees and personalized fees. Ask for an itemized official quote instead of relying on a single advertised plate price.
Personalized Configurations
Use the official configuration checker for a proposed message, then confirm the character capacity for the base plate. The department can reject configurations even when the text appears available.
Vehicle Sale and Plate Transfer
Remove the plate before delivering a sold vehicle. An eligible owner can transfer the plate to a replacement vehicle through an official transaction. The buyer cannot lawfully drive on the seller’s plate.
Display and Alteration Rules
Do not cover required words, numbers or the decal with a frame. Florida also prohibits altering the plate’s original appearance or using coatings and devices that interfere with readability or recording.
