An ELT record means the lienholder’s interest and the title are managed electronically. After payoff, verify that the lien was actually satisfied in the Florida record before selling, refinancing, exporting or requesting a clear paper title.

Choose the Correct Florida Title Path
Answer transaction questions without entering a VIN, plate, name or account number. The result is a planning path, not title approval.
How ELT Works
A participating lender submits lien and title information through an approved electronic provider. The state retains the title electronically while the lien is active. This reduces paper handling but does not change the borrower’s duty to pay or the lender’s secured interest.
What Happens After Loan Payoff
The lender should send an electronic lien satisfaction or provide the documentation required by the procedure. Processing time can vary. Keep the final payoff statement, account closure confirmation and any lien release letter until the official record shows the lien removed.
How to Verify Release
Use the official Motor Vehicle Information Check with the VIN or Florida title number, or ask a motor vehicle office to inspect the record. A credit report showing a closed auto loan is not proof that the title lien was removed.
Common ELT Problems
- Lender merged, closed or changed servicers
- VIN or borrower information does not match
- Payoff posted but satisfaction was not transmitted
- Paper lien release lacks required details
- A second or subsequent lien remains
- Owner requests paper before the record clears
Selling or Trading a Vehicle With an ELT Lien
Coordinate payoff and title release before relying on a buyer’s funds. Dealers and lenders may have controlled payoff procedures. In a private sale, use a verifiable payoff statement and do not give possession while the title path is uncertain.
Protect Account and Title Information
Use the lender contact information on your statement or official website, not a phone number supplied by an unknown buyer. Do not send login credentials, full account numbers or identity documents through unsecured messages.
Requirements can change by record and transaction. Include the official page, form number, office response and effective date when reporting an update.
