Quick answer

Florida’s official Motor Vehicle Information Check uses the VIN or Florida title number to show selected title, registration and lien information. A displayed lienholder must be resolved through the lender and official title process. Do not pay a private seller in full until the lien payoff, release and title-delivery method are documented.

Validate a VIN and Open Official Vehicle Checks

Enter a 17-character VIN. Validation and the check-digit calculation run in your browser. This website does not receive or store the VIN.

17 letters and numbers. Standard VINs do not use I, O or Q.

Important: A structurally valid VIN does not prove ownership, title condition, repair quality or that a physical VIN plate is genuine. Compare the vehicle, title and official records.

Prepare the Correct VIN or Title Number

Validate the VIN below and compare it with the Florida title, registration and vehicle. The official state check is not a plate-only owner lookup.

Using the Official Florida Motor Vehicle Check

The check can help confirm when the title was issued, registration expiration and recorded lienholder information. It is a starting point, not a substitute for the original title, lender payoff statement or office confirmation.

Electronic Florida Titles

An electronic title is not missing merely because the owner does not have paper. Florida can maintain the record electronically until a paper title is requested or an electronic transfer process applies. Confirm the owner names and lien before ordering or transferring.

Safe Lien Payoff Process

  1. Contact the lender using independently verified contact information.
  2. Request a written payoff good through a stated date.
  3. Confirm where funds must be sent.
  4. Ask how and when the electronic or paper lien will be released.
  5. Use a title office, escrow or lender-supervised closing for high-risk sales.
  6. Do not deliver the vehicle or full funds until the process is documented.

Private Sale With a Lien

A seller cannot transfer clear ownership merely by promising to pay the lender later. The buyer should understand whether the lender holds a paper title, participates in electronic lien and title, or must mail a release. A bank branch meeting can reduce impersonation and payoff fraud.

When a Paid Lien Still Appears

Collect the payoff confirmation, lender release, owner identification and title record. Ask the lender to submit the release through the accepted channel. If the lender has closed or merged, additional successor documentation may be required. Do not alter the title or create a homemade release.

Lien and Title Fraud Warnings

  • Seller provides only a screenshot of an “account paid” page
  • Lender phone number comes only from the seller
  • Title owner name differs from seller identity
  • VIN differs between title and vehicle
  • Seller asks for cash before lender confirmation
  • Paper title appears erased, washed or overwritten
